The Lead, Production Floor (SAPI) assists the Production Supervisor of Armor Fabrication (SAPI) in directing the activities of the Armor Fabricators. The Lead is expected to function with minimal supervision and is expected to perform fabrication tasks. The position requires thorough knowledge of the process methods in the areas they are to lead.
NOTE: This position is on 2nd SHIFT: 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m, Monday-Thursday.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Train employees in new methods, procedures, safety, and teamwork.
-Be a leader to employees to seek out areas where training is needed and effectively train employees.
-Create the image and practice the procedure of helping employees make more and better decisions by encouraging them.
-Assign duties for all members of the specific group.
-Perform craftsman responsibilities as required and assigned by the department supervisor or manager and the quality assurance department.
-Perform duties including: preparation for lay-up, mixing of resins and catalysts, lay-up, loading cure bags, applying spall shield, trimming, and finishing of armor product as necessary.
-Move or assist in moving materials, parts, assemblies, tools and equipment as required including the loading/unloading of applicable equipment.
-Direct, coordinate, and actively participate in keeping the Armor Fabrication area clean at all times.
-Perform other duties, consistent with the position, as assigned or required.
-Minimum of one (1) year experience in composite fabrication plus proven leadership skills or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-A working knowledge of shop mathematics including fractions and decimals.
-Proficient skill in reading, interpreting, and working from templates, patterns, process sheets, sketches, charts, and equipment operating manuals.
-Skill in the use of various equipment to include the reading and interpretation of gauges, controlling temperature/timing to specifications, and accurate reading of rulers, calipers, and protractors.
-Skill in interfacing with personnel outside of the armor department.
-Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word, while complying with written or verbal instructions.
-Requires ability to be able to move parts and finished product as well as providing assistance in boxing of product for daily shipment.
-Requires maintenance of production logs and paperwork as necessary.
-Leadership and facilitator skills in working as a team leader. Team leadership skills training.
PREFERENCES:
Autoclave experience a plus.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
